As a growing list of sporting, educational, entertainment, and business events are getting cancelled, the question has arisen. What risk, if any, is looming for HUD Code manufactured home producers?
MHProNews reached out to Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) and independent producers alike.
“Off record I don’t see a lot of major issues. Yes, foresee substitutions but no line stoppers at this point. Situation is fluid my answer could change,” stated an executive for a national producer in a message to MHProNews.
Another HUD Code builder said, “It seems as though our only main shortage is personnel who can read a ruler. Some of our suppliers have told us to expect supply chain interruptions and have used that for drastic increases in OSB Decking.” When a follow up on that was asked, that source replied that there has been “No line stoppages.”
A third producer stated, “Our sources tell us China is back to work. There will be logistical disruptions but my main concern is the panic disruptions. OSB manufacturers definitely collude.”
That source was asked follow up questions by MHProNews – ‘Nothing that slows the production line down? Do you have alternative sources if a part(s) is/are disrupted?’
That same producer replied – “We have not had to make any changes yet but expect it to be a possibility soon. Suppliers are working through it. I find it highly suspect China took the whole month of December off instead of just their normal two weeks and then this corona virus pops up when they are going back to work. It’s almost like a Wall Street CEO telling investors business is good when it sucks.”
MHProNews will continue to monitor the situation and report as warranted. See the related reports, below. Programming notice: a special report and analysis is pending on the coronavirus.
