Part III of today’s report reflects a broad retreat of manufactured housing connected equities. That drop in stocks occurred after equities rising for much of last week. The fall on Tuesday (4.4.2023) of manufactured home connected and other macro-market stocks’ slide coincided with the day charges were brought against deposed President Donald J. Trump. This report about action TV and big screen star Chuck Norris is not about the controversies regarding deposed President Trump’s historic charges, but the events yesterday are arguably part of the backdrop for his description of what’s gone wrong in modern America. More on that in part II of this column’s additional information with more MHProNews analysis and commentary. According to his bio: “Chuck Norris is the star of more than 20 films and the long-running TV series “Walker, Texas Ranger.” His latest book is entitled The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book.” Learn more about his life and ministry at his official website, ChuckNorris.com.” Given that several billion souls worldwide, Catholics and other Christian churches, see this time between Palm (Passion) Sunday and Easter as ‘Holy Week’ it is worth mentioning that Norris is a believer. So, the headline title to his evidence-supported op-ed should not be misunderstood.

Unholy week in America
Exclusive: Chuck Norris believes the soul of the nation is rotting, ‘and most don’t even see it’
By Chuck Norris
Published April 3, 2023 at 12:54pm
America is on life support. I don’t want to believe it, but a brand new poll out proves it. The country as our founders started it has been shredded like an old frayed and tattered flag. You can see the Stars and Stripes, but there are more holes in them than our borders.
As we walk into what is traditionally Holy Week, in reality, if this poll is right, it’s an unholy week in America, at least for most.
In his column “America Pulls Back From Values That Once Defined It,” the Wall Street Journal’s (WSJ) Aaron Zitner wrote: “Patriotism, religious faith, having children and other priorities that helped define the national character for generations are receding in importance to Americans.”
It’s absolutely startling how America’s core values have changed over the last few decades.
In the WSJ/NORC poll, all age groups, including seniors, attached far less importance to these priorities and values than when pollsters asked about them in 1998:Patriotism is very important: Decreased from 70% to 38%.
- Religion is very important: Decreased from 62% to 39%.
- Community involvement is very important: Decreased from 47% to 27%.
- Having children is very important: Decreased from 59% to 30%. Only 23% of adults under age 30 said that having children was very important.
- “The only priority the Journal tested that has grown in importance in the past quarter-century is money, which was cited as very important by 43% in the new survey, up from 31% in 1998.”
Did you expect that big of a drop in each category, in just 25 years?
NORC an objective, nonpartisan research organization at the University of Chicago, further described America’s descent into darkness with these stats:
- Only 1% described the economy as “excellent.”
- 33% said they have very little or no confidence in public schools.
- 56% said a four-year college degree is “not worth the cost because people often graduate without specific job skills and with a large amount of debt.”
Is it any surprise that respect for people’s variant views has radically dropped? WSJ’s Zitner added, “Tolerance for others, deemed very important by 80% of Americans as recently as four years ago, has fallen to 58%.”
As a result, do Americans believe that life for their childen’s generation will be better than it has for them? Only 21% “feel confident” verse 78% who “do not feel confident” their kids will be better off.
The fact is, America has reached or gone over its tipping point. It’s soul is rotting, and most don’t even see it.
The big question is: Is there any way back home besides the myriad of political and economic pitches to make American great again? Can any president restore the soul of America, or is something much bigger required?
My wife, Gena, and I respect all people, despite varying political positions, personal convictions or religious confessions. Nevertheless, we are unapologetically constitutional conservatives and committed Christians, who still believe in God and country. Faith, family and freedom are our core values. And we will continue to fight for what’s right with truth and optimism.
Despite the fact the nation and world look like they’re going to hell in a hand-basket, with its leaders pushing us to the edge of a nuclear war, we’ll be optimists to the end. Why? Not because we have some pie-in-the-sky paradigm of life, but because we understand and follow America’s original blueprint plan, summarized in the U.S. Constitution, our Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the moral code of the Bible and the Ten Commandments. (It’s America’s original blueprint plan that I call people back to in my New York Times bestseller, “Black Belt Patriotism.”)
I recently watched a great new Western starring Nicolas Cage, “The Old Way.” It’s about operating the way it used to be, when God, guns and grit were still at the heart of who we are.
And who better to tell us about the old way than the greatest leader America may have ever had? Namely, George Washington, who led and won the Revolutionary War and the nation as its first president. No man represented the core of America better than he did.
We need to relearn and follow the wisdom of leaders like our first president in his presidential farewell address. We need to unearth this documentary treasure, unknown I’d expect to most Americans. It’s a national treasure that can lead our country out of darkness and into a better, more prosperous and civilized united future.
As OurDocuments.gov explains, “In the 32-page handwritten address, Washington urged Americans to avoid excessive political party spirit and geographical distinctions. In foreign affairs, he warned against long-term alliances with other nations. The address was printed in Philadelphia’s American Daily Advertiser on Sept. 19, 1796.”
Dr. Gordon L. Anderson (Ph.D., Claremont Graduate University), the president of Paragon House and author of “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness,” penned an excellent summary of our nation’s first president’s speech, titling it: “20 Unheeded Warnings in Washington’s Farewell Address.”
Though a few might even ruffle the feathers of some of my readers, please consider their wisdom, and how not heeding George’s words has led us to our present peril.
Here are those “20 Unheeded Warnings in Washington’s Farewell Address”:
- Be vigilant. People will seek to use the government for selfish ends.
- Avoid overgrown military establishments; they are hostile to liberty.
- Prevent all obstructions to the execution of the laws.
- Control bureaucracies; make sure they all work together.
- Avoid political parties; they will cause divisive factions and unscrupulous men will use them to undermine the government.
- Give allegiance to the Constitution; improve it as necessary.
- Do not alter the Constitution lightly, or based on hypothesis; apply the experience applied when it was created.
- Be suspicious of administrators; they may serve themselves rather than the people.
- Watch for consolidation of power in any department of government.
- Preserve existing checks and balances and add more where power needs to be checked.
- Religion and morality are essential to create the virtue necessary to preserve the union.
- Promote widespread education; democracy requires literate citizens that understand the system of governance and take responsibility for themselves.
- Avoid debt; and immediately discharge any debt created by war.
- Taxes are unpleasant; government spending should be candidly conducted.
- Cultivate peace and justice toward all nations.
- Avoid alliances and maintain neutrality among nations.
- Avoid dependency; a weak state that allies with a stronger state will become its servant.
- Real patriots will resist intrigues, while dupes will surrender to interests.
- In trade, give no nation a favored nation status.
- Be guided by principles, not interests.
I would encourage you to read them one more time, and even slower, further pondering each of their meaning.
Because it’s Holy Week, I want to highlight what Washington thought was the most important tenet of all for maintaining civility and our national core.
Did you reflect upon No. 11 above? “Religion and morality are essential to create the virtue necessary to preserve the union.”
Look at the exact words from our first commander in chief’s farewell address as he admonished us:
Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connections with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked: Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice? And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.
To Washington, religion (not just general spirituality but Judeo-Christianity) was the bedrock of our society and republic. He believed that every week of American life should be a holy week.
But that’s not what most Americans believe today, at least not anymore. We continue to refuse to heed Washington’s words that we cannot maintain morality apart from the pillar of religion (or moral absolutes). As a result, we’re reaping what we’ve sown: A land of lawlessness and licentiousness. He warned us!
Washington was not alone in his belief in the overall preeminence of the role of God and religion as a foundation of decency and morality.
Dr. Mark David Hall, Herbert Hoover Distinguished Professor of Political Science at George Fox University, said, “America’s Founders were committed to the idea that religion (by which virtually all of them meant Christianity) was necessary for public happiness and political prosperity. This view was so widespread that James Hutson [American historian, scholar and chief of the Manuscript Division of the Library of Congress] has called it ‘the Founders’ syllogism’ [a form of deductive argument where the conclusion follows from the truth of two (or more) premises].”
What George Washington and the rest of the founders were saying was basically this: If we’ve got God, we’ve got the gold, and what we need to establish and maintain civility, respect, decency, morality and prosperity. Why? Because God serves as a basis for all of it. God commands us to love everyone – even our enemies, and instill hope and value in every human being – including ourselves – from the cradle to the grave.
In the beginning of our republic, it’s no coincidence that morals, ethics and religion (Christianity) were a part of the public square, including public education. Imagine if all our young people did what a 14-year-old George Washington did in copying by hand the small book: “110 Rules of Civility & Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation.”
America’s religious foundation and bedrock could continue to be seen into the mid-20th century. That is why in 1957, Congress voted that “In God We Trust” appeared on U.S. paper currency as an act to distinguish America from the officially atheist USSR (the motto had appeared on coins at various times since 1864).
“In God We Trust” are the same four words that were also largely inscribed in marble over the center of the chamber of the House of Representatives and chair of the speaker of the House. (Maybe it’s time the chaplain of the U.S. House of Representatives again point them out.)
So, what would be the fallout and consequences if we don’t trust God as a nation, if we abandon this Divine Friend and Helper, as Benjamin Franklin once asked at the constitutional convention? The answer is: national impotence, anarchy and moral and societal unrest, divisiveness and all forms of chaos. Exactly what we’re experiencing today.
The truth is, we’re going to have to dig deep to rediscover America’s divine bedrock and national treasure, because society has buried God and religion deep under the grounds of greed, selfishness, division, pleasure and personal expediency.
Boy, could Washington, D.C., sure use God’s help and wisdom right now. You don’t have to take my word for it. Listen to the man from whom the U.S. capital city derives its name and the wisdom from his unparalleled farewell address. Unearth that national treasure in your life and lives of your loved ones. That’s where it needs to start anyway, with you, not hundreds or thousands of miles away with someone in Washington, D.C.
If we do, we would not only restore Holy Week from among unholy weeks, but restore the very soul of our nation, one patriot at a time, which could truly return America to its glory days. ##

Part II – Additional Information with More MHProNews Analysis and Commentary in Brief
As was noted above in the preface, this column by Norris happened to coincide with the events related to deposed President Donald J. Trump’s (R) arrest and arraignment in New York on charges arising from the 2016 election campaign against Democrat Hillary Clinton. Secretary and former U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton (D) reportedly quietly settled for $113,000 a federal campaign finance violation in 2022. Also last year, left-leaning NBC News reported that “Stormy Daniels must pay $300k to Donald Trump after losing defamation case appeal.” Not long after Trump and his Secret Service detail left a New York City Courthouse, Fox News reported that ”Trump awarded nearly $122K in attorney fees from Stormy Daniels.” “The award came hours after Trump pleaded not guilty after being charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the first degree.” Meanwhile, White House Resident Joe Biden’s family reportedly has 150 suspicious activity reports (SARs) per the U.S. Treasury Department, see the “My Son Hunter” Masthead linked here.
Millions believe there is a two-tier justice system in America and over half the population, per recent polls, believe the charges against President Trump are political in nature. It is an attempt by Democrats to defeat the candidate who beat them in 2016, and who Trump and millions of others claim won again in 2020 in an election that was “stolen.”
Give the often godless left their due. What some describe as ‘the far left’ has to a significant degree taken over the Democratic party. They can be relentless. The number one report on MHProNews on 4.4.2023 is one posted last year which included the Soviet-era headline quote, “Show Me the Man, and I’ll Show You The Crime.” As that phrase “Show Me the Man, and I’ll Show You The Crime” has been bandied about pundits, columnists, and on social media, searches for it have surged. That surge has apparently been reflected in the report linked below becoming the #1 topic so far in April 2023 on MHProNews. One never knows with certainty which articles will be a hit with new and returning readers.
Norris’ Holy Week op-ed did a good job of covering several vexing issues that have been taking place in America in recent decades that have steadily eroded core values that were once thought by many to be unassailable in the U.S. Nevertheless, patriotism is falling. Faith in God and religious practices have steadily eroded too. This list of 20 unheeded items included this one:
- Promote widespread education; democracy requires literate citizens that understand the system of governance and take responsibility for themselves.
Education is not just accomplished in a classroom. Norris credits the first U.S. President, George Washington, with that point. But Norris might have mentioned what New York’s Buffalo State University’s website does: “By the mid-1800s, most states had accepted three basic assumptions governing public education.” And “In 1823, Reverend Samuel Read Hall founded the first private normal school in the United States, the Columbian School in Concord, Vermont. The first public normal school in the United States was founded shortly thereafter in 1839 in Lexington, Massachusetts.” So public ‘education’ grew slowly over time in the U.S.A.
An important element in the revolutionary war was the kind of ‘education’ that comes from newspapers, and in the Revolutionary War era of American History, from pamphleteers. The risks and troubles caused by the British rule in the original 13 colonies, which became the first 13 states that made up the United States, were conveyed in various ways. It included gatherings and discussions in churches, but it also included pamphlets and ‘news’ that helped build the coalition that finally organized and sparked a successful revolution in the first place.
Revolutions throughout human history are routinely about information and perceptions.
Recall that in the days leading up to “the inauguration,” right or wrong, of Joe Biden in 2021 that much was made of the deployment of the National Guard in Washington, D.C. Fencing went up quickly around the U.S. Capitol. “The Pentagon has authorized up to 25,000 National Guard members” for the Biden installation, as CNN reported on 1.15.2021. That was in the wake of the riot at the Capitol, whose narrative has now been called into question once House Republicans began to release security footage of the January 6th video to Tucker Carlson on Fox News and then others in media.
- Perception for millions ‘is reality.’
MHLivingNews and MHProNews have often made the point that perceptions, often false ones, are a contributing factor to the underperformance of manufactured housing in the U.S.A. If every American truly understood the realities behind every aspect of the various claims and concerns surrounding manufactured homes, would less than 7 percent of single family housing stock be a pre-HUD Code mobile home or a post-HUD Code manufactured home, as the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) asserts?
Education, per Oxford Languages, has two meanings.
ed·u·ca·tion
noun
1. the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university.
“a new system of public education”
2. an enlightening experience.
Wikipedia’s definition of education does not begin with any mention of schooling. “Education is a purposeful activity directed at achieving certain aims, such as transmitting knowledge or fostering skills and character traits. These aims may include the development of understanding, rationality, kindness, and honesty.”
Norris’ list of 20 bullets he attributed to President Washington included this:
- Avoid overgrown military establishments; they are hostile to liberty.
That has the ring of President Dwight D. Eisenhour’s (R) warning against the military industrial (spy) complex. Eisenhour’s successor, President John F. Kennedy (D), like “Ike” used the CIA and spy apparatus of the United States, but he also distrusted it due to the experiences of the Bay of Pigs and other vexing elements of “Cold War” era American history. Kennedy threatened to abolish the CIA, he was so disgusted by it. But President Kennedy was also distrustful of what Ike called the military industrial complex.
In hindsight, through an array of information from a range of sources, we now see that the perception of reality – propaganda warfare – deployed by the U.S. and allies in World War II, has at various times been aimed at American citizens. Perception of reality, fostered by propaganda and coupled by what Norris cited as “interests” are contributing factors to the U.S. involvement in Cuba during the Spanish American War. As the Library of Congress website puts it: “On February 15, 1898, an explosion of unknown origin sank the battleship U.S.S. Maine in the Havana, Cuba harbor, killing 266 of the 354 crew members. The sinking of the Maine incited United States’ passions against Spain, eventually leading to a naval blockade of Cuba and a declaration of war.” Some say the explosion that sunk the U.S.S Maine was caused by Americans, not by those aligned with Spain. Fast forward to World War I. After campaigning for re-election under the tag line, “He kept us out of war,” President Woodrow Wilson (D) led the U.S. into World War I in Europe. Again, manipulation of U.S. public opinion is said to have been a causal factor.
The surprise attack by Japan against Pearl Harbor is another piece of history that is in dispute. Some say that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (D) knew that the Japanese fleet and associated aircraft carriers was heading toward Pearl Harbor. If so, there were ways to head off that conflict, or at least what occurred on December 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Manipulating information and manipulating the evolution of events is how public perceptions are often warped.
One could go through several other conflicts, including:
- Vietnam (the Gulf of Tonkin incident) under President Lydon Banes Johnson (D). President Kennedy (D) wanted to wind down America’s involvement in Vietnam, but Johnson reversed course after Kennedy was shot and killed.
- Gulf War I (George H.W. Bush (R)), which might have been avoided had a U.S. ambassador not green lighted one-time American ally Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait.
- Gulf War II (Iraq plus Afghanistan – George W. Bush (R)) stirred up the public’s belief that so-called weapons of mass destruction were in the hands of Hussein’s government. Propaganda was clearly at work (see the award winning documentary video, Shadows of Liberty). That propaganda included the use by government, military and intelligence agencies media contacts to frame the narrative that led to over 2 decades of Middle Eastern conflicts by American forces.
Education, critical thinking skills, and an understanding of reality based on authentic instead of fake news are indeed of often critical importance. Indeed, every one of the 20 bullet’s Norris mentioned ought to be of keen interest to people who care about the future of America, regardless of political party affiliation.
Our population has been manipulated on so many levels it may boggle the mind for numbers of people. But that’s not just an American phenomenon. It has and does occur in other nations too. The Russian revolution that ushered in the Bolsheviks may never have occurred had the Russian people a clue that the Communists would be worst than the Tsars (Czars) that preceded them in power. Would Venezuela have voted in socialists if propaganda had not been used there? Would Iran be ruled by mullahs and hardline Muslims increasingly aligned with Russia and Communist China had many of their people not been manipulated by propaganda? Would China be ruled by Communists without propaganda? These are just a few examples of how manipulation of information and an understanding of reality is critical to everyday life.
Norris’ thesis, as suggested herein, could have included this or that refinement or different/added points. But authors are often constrained by a publication on the length or some detail(s). So, this isn’t a criticism of Norris per se. Rather, it is just a word of caution that every source should have the principle of separating the wheat from the chaff applied.
Our industry is limited and in trouble due in part to misinformation. Psychological and socio-economic manipulation has been influencing manufactured housing for decades.
Our country is in trouble due in part to misinformation.
But as Norris mentioned, Washington and other founders believed that the principles of faith were a safeguard for American liberties. As Norris put it: “To Washington, religion (not just general spirituality but Judeo-Christianity) was the bedrock of our society and republic. He believed that every week of American life should be a holy week.”
Quite so.
- The abolitionist movement to end slavery was in great measure a religious movement in America.
- The Women’s Suffrage (the vote) movement played out in churches across the nation. As Duke University puts it: “Religious convictions compelled many to campaign and others to fight vehemently against granting women the right to vote. Women viewed the right to vote as not only a political and social but a moral issue — as did their opponents.”
- Right and wrong, the prohibition movement in America was to a high degree a religious movement.
- The Civil Rights movement was led by numerous faith-leaders, including, but not limited to, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. As Duke University noted in the reference to women’s rights, each of the movements above had voices in the faith community taking pro- and con-positions.
The weakening of faith and morals in the U.S. naturally has consequences. If lies are not seen as serious acts, then it is no surprise that lies, paltering, spin, and manipulation of information will naturally become more common. It is worth mentioning that Norris issued a less detailed, but similar warning almost 11 years ago, as reported by CBS News. “Chuck Norris believes “our great country and freedom are under attack.” And if evangelicals don’t show up at the polls and vote out President Obama, “our country as we know it may be lost forever if we don’t change the course our country is headed.” To his point, what has occurred since that date? How many millions of Christians, “Evangelicals,” and other people of faith failed to go vote in 2022 election? Why was there any surprise that the anticipated red wave was muted? This flashback video on Facebook captures in an ‘everyday American’s’ terms why engagement by believers has and can make the difference.
It is worthwhile to re-read Norris’ op-ed above and these observations. The only way to counter bad information is with more accurate insights. While limited and thus imperfect, the thrust of these remarks already have stood the test of time. Look back at the topics MHProNews/MHLivingNews took once controversial stances on. As time marched on, reports that may have been deemed as ‘conspiracy theories’ by some were later proven to be quite correct.
Our profession and all others are part of the quilt work that makes up the fabric of American society. Two more points from Norris:
- Be vigilant. People will seek to use the government for selfish ends.
- Be guided by principles, not interests.
The founders wanted a limited government with plenty of checks and balances. They did so after studying world history. The timeless flashback report below sheds more light on that and other timely issues.
Beyond a deeper appreciation and practice of authentic faith (yes, there are better and worse ones – God isn’t confused by what He’s taught humanity, but religion gets manipulated by people too), critical thinking is necessary. That means good information is necessary.
Passover begins tonight. The Easter Triduum days are looming.
Joe Biden is certainly right about one thing. There is a battle for the soul of America. But there always has been. Faith, morals, critical thinking, and correct information should lead to better decisions and better choices. ##
