Inhabitat reports a division of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has purchased the 579-megawatt Antelope Valley Solar Projects (AVSP) from Silicon Valley solar manufacturer and developer SunPower, worth over $2 billion. Outfitted with SunPower’s super efficient modular photovoltaic trackers, and re-located to Kern and Los Angeles counties, the 3,230 acre facility will become the largest solar power plant in the world. SunPower will construct and operate the projects for Berkshire’s subsidiary, MidAmerican Renewables, and sell the energy to Southern California Edison. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the AVSP solar facilities will offset 775,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, the equivalent of removing three million cars from the road over 20 years. MHProNews has learned the project should be operational by the end of 2015.
