British Columbia City may Allow Manufactured Homes for Foreign Agri Workers

manufactured homes for washington fruit pickers Dan Wheat capital press com creditFollowing an hour-long Kelowna, British Columbia, City Council meeting regarding a request by a local fruit grower to build more permanent housing for foreign fruit pickers, as cbc.ca trells MHProNews., who the grower says stay nearly eight-months, has resulted in the council sending a letter for clarification to B. C. Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick.

Although he said decisions about housing on farm land are up to the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC), Letnick, in response to whether permanent structures could be allowed, says, “It depends. The preference according to the bylaw is for them to be temporary structures, some kind of manufactured home that can removed at some point in the future if the need no longer existed.”

Councilors denied the request from the farmer pending a response from the ALC about what it would or would not do. Letnick says he is always open to suggestions that will benefit agriculture. ##
