The Nottingham News from Central England says Nottingham College and Eco-Modular Housing, Ltd, have collaborated to build a fully furnished modular home on the campus to teach students low carbon home construction. Made from old shipping containers, the prototype was completed from setting the base to turning on the power in three days. The home will not be lived in, but another class will disassemble the house and reconstruct it. The partnership also intends to produce a four-bedroom modular unit. Eco-Modular hopes to gain a contract with the city of Nottingham to construct a series of low-cost modular homes. Said Nazir Asmal, managing director of Eco-Modular: “We specialize in recycling. We can use any structure that can carry weight as the basis for these homes.”
