Bruce Allen Savage, July 7, 1950 – January 9, 2021, passed away “at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes due to complications from COVID-19,” said Newsbreak.
He was born July 7, 1950, in Rocky Mount, N.C., son of the late William and Pauline Savage.
According to his AHA bio, “Savage served as Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs for the Manufactured Housing Institute from 1982 through 2007 where he was a strong advocate for the manufactured and modular housing industries. He also served as editor of MODERN HOMES, a quarterly magazine focusing on the attributes and value of factory-built housing. A former owner of a manufactured home for more than 15 years, Savage has experienced first-hand the tremendous advances that factory-building technologies deliver today and how these homes represent one of the best values in today’s housing marketplace.”
“Bruce grew up in Tarboro, N.C. Upon graduating from East Carolina University, he moved to the Washington, D.C. area where he worked as a communications specialist. He developed corporate communication strategies for several companies and organizations, including Riggs Bank, American Gas Association, and Manufactured Housing Association,” per Newsbreak.
“In 2015 Bruce married Irving “Sonny” Stedman Jr., his partner of more than 30 years. They lived in Vienna, Va., and built a second home in Lewes. It was to this secluded spot overlooking the Rehoboth Bay that they retired.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his beloved husband and partner, Irving “Sonny” Stedman Jr. in 2018. He is survived by a loving family of friends.
Services will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.”
According to the AHA website he co-founded, “Savage served as Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs for the Manufactured Housing Institute from 1982 through 2007 where he was a strong advocate for the manufactured and modular housing industries.
The following quoted comments are from those who knew and worked with him. They were provided via the Parsell Funeral Homes remembrance page for Bruce.
Bruce was a former colleague who became a very close friend. He is known as “Uncle Bruce” to my family. My last visit with him was in Rehoboth in late September. As always, the visit was filled with laughter. He was the consummate gentleman and always had such wonderful stories of his travels with Irv and their dear friends, Elaine and Mother Hogarth. I will miss him and his infectious laugh immensely. I know Irv was waiting for him with open arms in Heaven.

Where Business, Politics and Investing Can Meet
First, on a personal note, Bruce Allen Savage, APR, CAE July 7, 1950 – January 9, 2021 was one of the thousands of this writer’s professional connections on LinkedIn. All of my interactions with Bruce over the years were routinely professional and cordial.
In doing some research on Savage that would reflect some of his professional history in manufactured housing, this video popped up. It featured an interview with Bruce talking about the lessons from his perch at the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) related to FEMA using manufactured homes. It is an interesting video on several levels. It is one that we may refer back to for a future report.
Again, for all of those touched by the loss of Bruce, MHProNews extends our sincere condolences. May he rest in peace.
