Following a story MHProNews last posted Aug. 12, 2016 regarding an application for development of a 680-site manufactured home community, the Calcasieu (LA) Parish Police Jury Planning and Zoning Board voted 10-0 to deny the request to rezone the 215 acres from agricultural to manufactured home community (MHC). The full Police Jury will still have to uphold or reverse the board’s decision at its meeting on Thursday, Aug. 18according to americanpress.
The initial development included 987 MH home sites, but the developers reduced it after hearing concerns of neighbors. The most prevalent issue was the increased traffic.
Jimmy Cureton, owner of Kayouche Investors LLC, speaking on the applicant’s behalf, said it is not a “man camp” as some have suggested since it is close to the massive Sosol Ltd industrial facility being built, but a clean manufactured home community with green space.
The property is a golf course closed 20 years ago. The owners offered to make a public park from some of the land. ##
