As reported in The Vancouver Sun, following the tragedy in Japan, British Columbia businesses that assisted in Indonesia following the tsunami in 2004 have similarly offered their assistance to Japan, but have yet to hear back. Britco, a BC manufacturer of modular homes and buildings, supplied 500 modular homes through Save the Children USA to Indonesia, and help trained the villagers to assemble the buildings. They stand ready to construct and ship modular offices, dormitories, and classrooms to a country that is also a forest products buyer. Industry leaders are quick to say they are not trying to take advantage of the situation, and are putting together a humanitarian aid package. Ports may have to be rebuilt before shipments can get in.
