The Lloydminster City Council in west central Saskatchewan, Canada, just over the line from Alberta, voted for a 97 percent increase for daily manufactured home (MH) licensing fees over the next two years, according to wireservice.ca. The province’s Greens leader, Victor Lau, noting this is sending the wrong message to people seeking a home in Lloydminster, says, “Affordable housing is in short supply across Saskatchewan right now, Lloydminster included. Increasing the licensing fees for potentially more affordable forms of housing” may turn people away. He says municipalities need to zone more neighborhoods for affordable housing alternatives like manufactured and modular housing, as well as regulate licensing fees to keep affordable housing affordable. As MHProNews reported Aug. 6, 2013, despite the strength of MH in Alabama, in terms of producers and shipments, Moulton AL considered banning all MH from residential neighborhoods. ##
