The Sooke City Council in British Columbia, Canada, south of the Vancouver area, is off for the summer, but when it returns in the fall, the councillors will be taking up an issue dealing with the owner of a manufactured home community (MHC) who wants to rezone 11,300 square feet of the community, from large lot designation to MHC status. The current zoning laws on the property date back to the 1990s to bylaws inherited by the Capital Regional District. The owner wants the property to be in compliance with usage laws. According to sookenewsmirror, the first opportunity for a public hearing will be Sept. 12.
In addition to other zoning requests and general business of the council, a housing forum is also scheduled for the fall in Sooke. MHProNews has learned from covering news from around the world that affordable housing is in short supply in various degrees from Canada and the U. S. to the UK, New Zealand, Australia, African countries, Ireland, as well as Germany and the Scandinavian countries that have taken in thousands of refugees from Middle East conflict zones. Manufactured homes could go a long way in providing affordable housing, here and abroad. ##
