Following a storyline MHProNews has posted several times, the last being Jan. 25, 2016 regarding opposition to modular homes in Cape Coral Fla., the developer says changes are coming to make the homes fit in better with the neighborhood.
Beginning in Feb., garages will be attached to homes, breezeways will be removed, some houses will have stucco panels or concrete textures, some will have stacked stones, according to abc-7.
Local residents are not necessarily impressed. “It’s not what the other homes are here,” said Douglas Malinowski. “It’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing no matter which way you change it.”
Over 100 people attended the city council meeting Monday night to once again protest the modular homes they claim are destroying property values in Cape Coral.
The developer specified changes to the design of the homes in a letter at the meeting. Although building officials in Cape Coral state modular homes can be sited on any lot zoned for a residence, Realtor Jay LaGace said of the letter, “I thought it was a joke. The letter says a majority of new homes will see changes. How can you say the majority and how can you say only if the buyer wants it? It just makes no sense.”
He had previously commented that Jacksonville has an ordinance limiting the siting of modular homes. Opponents have vowed to continue expressing their discontent until the city issues a stop work order. ##
