RVBusiness reports a copyright dispute has spawned a lawsuit, and countersuit, between two manufactured home producers, Cavco Industries, Inc. and Champion Home Builders, Inc. Phoenix-based Cavco and its Palm Harbor Homes (PHH Liquidation Trust) division filed the initial copyright lawsuit in federal court, alleging Champion violated the copyright law and misappropriated trade secrets pertaining to manufactured home designs and floor plans. In its countersuit, Troy-Mich. based Champion and Joseph Kesterson, also a plaintiff, who once worked for Cavco but is now with Champion, claim the designs and floor plans are not copyrightable material. MHproNews has learned the Sept. 7 countersuit was filed in federal court in Sherman, Texas, north of Dallas. Kesterson is from Texas.
