MHProNews has provided periodic warnings for several years to domestic factory-built housing professionals about the potential impact of their modular, container, and other forms of prefabricated housing targeting the U.S. market.
Such Chinese prefab units have already been produced and shipped to the United States, typically for the West Coast, per reports. The report below is one example of several possible.
Chinese PreFabs, Modulars Are Selling in the USA, Here’s an Example
With that brief backdrop, the firm Shanghai Allstar in today’s spotlight is but one example of many that have eyes on the U.S. market. MHLivingNews has an article that takes a closer look at seemingly inexpensive prefabs, to caution shoppers. Those same cautions arguably apply here, with some additional ones merited, because the product is international. If there is a serious service issue, how is that resolved?
MarketWatch says Amazon Selling New Homes for Under $20,000, Don’t Buy One Before Reading This – manufacturedhomelivingnews.com
First, let’s make it clear that there are all kinds of reasonable and good housing options. This publication is broad-minded about all safe, legal, and legitimate housing options. That said, Amazon has made headlines recently with some of their kit homes. What are those? Kit housing has been around for about a century that …
If you have a serious liability problem, such as the infamous Chinese drywall fiasco, how do you get a company protected by China’s communists to make good, if they opt not to do so?
With those cautions made for professionals now too, the example firm shown is a new video. The English is okay.
Here’s what this company provides as their specs. Typos below are in the original.

There are certainly U.S. producers who buy components from China. Whatever the logic of that may or may not be, given the evolving trade tensions, those purchases from China to U.S. producers are reportedly still coming. Regular readers of MHProNews may recall Kevin Clayton lamenting the issue of tariffs on China in a video interview a few weeks ago.
The bottom line is this. U.S. manufactured and modular home producers have numerous advantages that they can honestly tout. But resting on past laurels or the status quo is not a luxury that domestic factory producers should count on.
While anything can happen in the U.S.-China trade issue, what seems apparent is that they have numerous firms based on the Chinese mainland that would like to do more business in the U.S. What is the best safeguard for this, besides whatever trade deal the Trump Administration might make? It is to grow your business as sustainably and rapidly now as can be practically achieved. Otherwise, the potential threat from Asia or elsewhere may only grow.
That’s a sobering look at an underreported aspect of a vexing situation that American factory builders should ponder, found only here at the home “Industry News, Tips, and Views Pros Can Use” © where “We Provide, You Decide.” © ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)
