At a public hearing Tuesday morning, April 7, the Jasper (Ala.) City Council delayed a request for a zoning change that would have allowed a multi-section manufactured home (MH) to be sited after a neighbor opposed the change to R-3, affordable housing. Sharon Harris, who lives adjacent to the property in question, expressed concerns that property values would suffer if the MH is allowed.
The city’s zoning board had approved the request and passed it on to the council for a vote. Council member Sandi Sudduth made a motion to approve the zoning, provided regulations regarding the siting are upheld. Councilor Gary Cowen suggested the council postpone a decision until more information can be gathered, including the possibility of more opposition to the rezoning.
The party who had requested the rezoning was not identified nor present at the hearing. The council will take up the matter at its next meeting April 21, as dailymountaineagle tells MHProNews ##
