The Inman City Council in South Carolina has postponed a vote on preventing new “mobile homes” (sic) from being sited in a small residential district within the city limits, reports goupstate to MHProNews. Homes already sited there can stay but no new manufactured homes can come in.
Fifteen people attended a public hearing on the zoning amendment including Atty. Ed Shafer of the Manufactured Housing Institute of South Carolina, and Brian McKinney of Clayton Homes.
“The quality of today’s manufactured homes could improve that area,” said Shafer. McKinney said the language is vague and incorrect because homes built after June 1976 are manufactured homes, not mobile homes.
Councilman Ray Rogers said the language needs to be corrected. McKinney and Shafer told they council they will show them what new manufactured homes look like and how they can improve a neighborhood. ##
