The facility, called The Claytons, covers 120 acres, and has nine wooded holes and nine open ones, and each hole has a short and long basket to accommodate varying levels of play. It will be leased to the city of Alcoa, which will be responsible for upkeep of the grounds, according to thedailytimes. Clayton’s President and CEO Kevin Clayton is an avid disc golf participant.
Larger than most disc golf courses, designer Daniel Boutté, who has been playing for nearly 30 years, says it is close enough to Knoxville, TN, which hosts some of the best disc golf tournaments, to attract new players as well. Scheduled to be ready for play in mid-October, it will be open dawn to dusk like other public parks. Tournaments will likely begin next spring.
There are no tee times associated with the game. “You bring your own (equipment), show up and play,” Boutté explained, noting the course does not have to be played in order. “Employees could probably play the front nine on their lunch break.”
As MHProNews has reported previously, the Clayton-Bradley Academy is also situated on the Clayton Campus. ##
