The saugertiesx informs MHProNews from east central New York state the town of Saugerties has revised its comprehensive housing plan to exclude affordable housing, including manufactured housing. A public hearing in Nov. 2012 made it clear the town folk prefer single-family housing to rentals and subsidized housing. Initially, wording for the overall housing goal included “diversity in housing to appeal to all levels of income, including cluster housing, apartments and well-planned manufactured housing parks.” The new wording states, “Saugerties should maintain and encourage a variety and diversity in the housing stock in order to accommodate the preferences and needs of current and future residents consistent with the community character as expressed in this plan.” The Comprehensive Plan Committee chair and a village trustee both said the new plan cuts out new low-income housing, but support for existing public housing agencies will continue.
