Congress is continuing to press HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan on the appointment of a non-career Administrator for the HUD manufactured housing program. In the event you have not seen it yet, attached for your information is a copy of Congressman Travis Childers’ (D-MS 1st) December 2, 2009 letter to the Secretary regarding this issue which also criticizes the career staff of the program for not supporting the industry. This builds upon and reinforces a pointed exchange on this matter between the Secretary and Congressman Bill Posey (R-FL 15th) at a December 2, 2009 hearing of the House Financial Services Committee (see, MHARR Memorandum, December 3, 2009). This is an excellent letter, which warrants your careful review. MHARR will continue to work with Congress to seek the appointment of a non-career program Administrator, which was a priority of the 2000 reform law, and without which, little if anything in the HUD program will change.
