This week the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced a conference call meeting of the Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee (MHCC) for Wednesday, July 20, 2011 from 11:00 AM–1:00 PM EDT. The committee will meet to conduct routine business, receive subcommittee status reports and subcommittee recommendations and proposals before the committee. MHI staff will participate in the meeting.
Since the last in-person meeting in Washington, D.C. in March, the MHCC Subcommittees have been meeting via teleconference to discuss over 50 pending updates to the HUD Code.
During the July meeting the full MHCC will likely vote on a number of these changes, most of which are not controversial. The MHCC will also continue deliberations on the MHI proposal to include a non-mandatory, uniform, factory friendly fire sprinkler requirement in the HUD-Code.
MHI’s proposal also contains a provision which explicitly states fire sprinklers are NOT required in manufactured homes.
The Committee will also consider a proposed two-year code cycle for considering changes to the HUD-Code.
Members of the public may participate in the call by calling the toll free number 877-320-2367 and enter pass code 4191690.
