There are a few things that a newcomer or longtime reader of MHProNews and our sister site must bear in mind. Despite the currently low ebb of the industry, the upside potential is nothing less than impressive. Few investment opportunities rival the potential of HUD Code manufactured homes. Those other options are often far less of ‘a sure bet’ as manufactured housing – properly understood and executed – represents.
There is what’s said in MHVille. Then there is the reality that the ‘powers that be’ may know to be debatably different than their media releases or statements to the industry’s members reflect.
No one in manufactured housing trade media history have ever dissected, examined, and pulled back the layers of the HUD Code industry to discover its inner working as this publication and our sister site have in recent years. You and thousands of others have responded to those fact-checks and revelations by making this site the #1 trade media in our industry by far. Others may brag about this or that, but however pretty they think their words or covers may be, they are replete with unexamined head fakes, documentable errors, and purported deception. Those are aimed to keep the sleeping giant of manufactured homes as dormant as possible, for the profit – licit or not – of the Omaha-Knoxville-Arlington axis.
To understand manufactured housing’s potential, one must know the huge need for affordable housing. They must also know that the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act of 2000, the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, and the potential value of other existing federal laws that deal with financing.
Insiders are also aware of the broader macro-economic and political forces at play.
While mainstream news has its value, some of it is little more than the talking points of this or that camp. Those camps have their Washington and state level surrogates and contacts.
When someone does the math, here is what is clear. One trillion dollars is the low side estimate for the immediate need of affordable housing, over and above current housing spending. That figure could be significantly higher. While that figure is at retail and not the net, the bottom-line profit potential that trillion-dollar plus sum reflects is plenty of motivation for the kind of slippery behavior one has witnessed in MHVille in much of the 21st century.
The ploy at work in manufactured housing may in time make Bernie Madoff jealous.

Millions of Americans were taught or acquired a sanitized or weaponized view of American history. Even those of us who focused on history in high school and at university were to varying degrees tainted by the perspective of instructors, pop culture, or textbooks.
