Calling modular homes a “death sentence” to the housing market, realtors in Cape Coral say they hurt property values and the entire housing market, according to fox4now. One realtor, Jay Lagace, called it a travesty for the city of Cape Coral, noting it is on right on the gateway to the Seven Islands Properties, a forty-acre tract of land with seven man made islands deemed ripe for high-end residential development.
Over two thousand Cape Coral residents joined a facebook group campaigning to stop modular homes from being built here.
MHProNews has learned that building officials in Cape Coral say modular homes can be built on any lot zoned for a residence, that they will not affect property values, and a state statute limits restrictions on them. The commentary in the video says the property values are already plummeting in the area, as do several people interviewed, although no actual evidence is offered.
City Councilman Richard Leon said, “It is my hope that the community and council can work with the construction industry to tighten regulations in our city, to allow for higher quality design of homes.” ##
