He says Oregon law requires counties to submit sales records for all types of property to the state. The state then does a study and sets the tax rolls accordingly. A couple of years ago the state changed from basing the assessment on components of a property, like the number of toilets, to square footage of a property.
Chalmers states the value of the pre HUD Code home in 2012 was nearly $14,000, so based on the state’s calculations, it should have been valued at $15,000 to $16,000 in 2013. Haga does not think she can sell it or move it to another property, which she says would cost around $5,000; and because of its age, it would not likely withstand being moved anyhow.
However, Rachael Reynolds, an analyst in the county assessor’s office, states three homes similar in age and size to Haga’s home sold for $14,000 to $25,000. ##
