ELKHART, Ind., — During the RV Industry Power Breakfast in May 2013 at the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Ind., one of the event’s emcees, Dicor Corp. President Gregg Fore, noted that the facility’s podium wasn’t exactly up to par with the rest of the gorgeous home of the RV/MH museum and the Northern Indiana Event Center. And, he tossed out a challenge for someone among the nearly 475 members of the audience to do something about it.
“The podium was made out of particle board and RV screws and was very tipsy,” Fore said. “I raised a challenge to the audience to help me find a way to make a podium that was more befitting the Hall of Fame. The only person who volunteered was Bob Miller of REM Industries.”
After meeting with Miller, Fore also enlisted Dicor’s Director of Engineering, Tom DelVecchio, in the project.
“Tom looked at a lot of podiums in magazines and whatnot, measured the one here, created a drawing and asked Bob’s people to follow the blueprints,” Fore said. “They did, and it turned out beautiful.”
Recently, Fore, Miller and DelVecchio presented the new podium to Darryl Searer, president of the RV/MH Hall of Fame and Jeff White, marketing manager for the Northern Indiana Event Center.
“It’s made out of hard maple,” Miller said of the handbuilt podium, adding that his Waukarusa, Ind., company invested 30 to 40 hours in its construction.
Upon accepting the gift from Miller and Fore, RV/MH Hall of Fame President Darryl Searer said, “Greg was right. Our speakers podium was a little flimsy and we appreciate the thoughtfulness and generosity of Dicor and REM Industries for donating this new podium. It’s great. I couldn’t be more pleased.”
