As one of the reports in the headlines for the week in review detail, the Longshoremen’s strike vs. the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) had the potential to disrupt components used in manufactured homes as well as conventional housing, not to mention untold numbers of other products imported into the United States, such as bananas and other commodities. With that backdrop is the following. “At my direction, the Florida National Guard and the Florida State Guard will be deployed to critical ports affected by the strike to maintain order and, where possible, resume operations,” said Gov Ron DeSantis (FL-R). “It is unacceptable for the Biden-Harris administration to allow supply chain interruptions…” That was posted on DeSantis’ X (i.e.: Twitter) feed at 12:52 PM · Oct 3, 2024 and garnered 3.3M views by 3:52 PM on 10.4.2024. “The International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance, Ltd. have reached a tentative agreement on wages and have agreed to extend the Master Contract until January 15, 2025, to return to the bargaining table to negotiate all other outstanding issues,” The International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance said in a joint statement. That was reported by left-leaning CNBC on Oct 3, 2024, 6:43 PM EDT. Did DeSantis’ announcement move the needle between the parties? While the answer to that is not known at this time, there was speculation on that potential by the co-hosts of the WMAL morning show starting after 5 AM ET on 10.4.2024. WMAL’s Larry O’Connor said that to him it seemed apparent that other Republican governors could well have followed DeSantis’ lead. That would mean that states like Texas or South Carolina could have had a similar move as the announcement by DeSantis.
Editorially, MHProNews’ is sympathetic to ILA and other labor union members on several levels.
That said, Gov. DeSantis’ leadership on this point may well have moved the needle between the parties.

So today DeSantis completely humiliated Biden, called the bluff of the Longshoremen, ended the strike, and saved Christmas.
This is just a few days after executing the best hurricane response in American history.
We so, so completely fucked up the primary.

This writer for MHProNews is not personally aware of an effort by deposed President Donald J. Trump (R) with the union leader Harold Daggett. The photo of the two shaking hands predates the ILA-USMX deal. But that doesn’t mean that the next tweet is mistaken.

But what seems much more certain is that the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) didn’t intervene with so much as a signing onto a letter about this issue, despite the fact that they like to brag about signing onto ‘coalition’ letters. See the headlines report on MHProNews further below.
MHProNews plans to continue to spotlight the growing pile of evidence that MHI is aligned with consolidators who seem to believe that it is in their best interests for the manufactured housing industry to underperform.

Postscript
An objective look at the last 3.5 years tells us that since President Donald J. Trump left the White House there have been an array of international and domestic woes. Inflation took off after Trump (R) left and Joe Biden-Kamala Harris (D) moved into the White House. Wars have erupted between Russia and Ukraine, between proxies of Iran and Israel, and more are threatened in Asia and the Middle East. America’s border with Mexico has become an almost meaningless line while Harris and Biden (D) spent hundreds of billions of dollars defending the borders of Ukraine. You simply can’t make up how tragically poor the performance of Harris and Biden (D) have been. See the Real Clear Politics (RCP) report linked here with added commentary by Patch contributor L. A. “Tony” Kovach for more details.
We are facing what both major parties leaders are calling the most consequential election of our lifetimes. Democrat turned Republican President Ronald Reagan made the choice simpler. This time around, we have an even easier choice to make. Kamala Harris has embraced and voted for the Biden agenda more than any vice president in history, per the left-leaning (meaning, pro-Democratic) New York Times. Joe Biden by saying that Kamala Harris made it clearer still. Biden said Kamala was part of every consequential decision in his admiration. Ouch.
My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best… pic.twitter.com/x8DnvuImJV

Some think that Biden is at times coyly giving Kamala the shiv, because she worked to depose him from the Democratic Party nomination. While that is speculative, it is plausible. Biden repeatedly said he didn’t want to step down.
Either major party candidate could win this election. The Reagan test, ‘are you better off now or 4 years before?’ is answered by most Americans that they were better off during the Trump years. Elections routinely come to down to whose supporters show up and actually vote. Don’t just vote Komrade Kamala Harris (D) and Tiananmen Tim Walz (MN-D) down. Vote Trump-Vance in and vote for every Republican up and down the ballot so they have the support needed in U.S. Congress, the U.S. Senate, and at the state and local levels too. If you are not already registered to vote, go to: https://vote.gov. Your state, D.C., or territory registration process will be there. Vote like your future depends on it.
