From Great Britain, westerngazette.uk informs MHProNews that Derek Yeomans, a candidate for South Somerset District Council in the Burrow Hill ward, states modular housing is the only way to solve the housing crisis in South Somerset.
“Modular homes are wooden in construction. All the walls are made to a specific size, all the windows are triple-glazed, and they cost half the price to build as normal homes. You can knock them together with a sledgehammer. They are the only way that we are going to be able to deliver affordable houses in Somerset. We’ve got to do something about this now. Frankly we’re looking at our backsides if we don’t do it,” he says.
The district council election is set for May 7, but Yeomans statement was not made in support of any particular party or candidate. The district council did not directly respond to his statement, only to say that housing associations that the district partners with have used modular methods in the past, but it is dependent upon the sites in the hands of the developer. The council spokesman adds: “Nevertheless we will continue to consider further proposals from our partners as and when these arise.” ##
