MHProNews has learned that Sun Secured Financing LLC, a subsidiary of Sun Communities, Inc. of Southfield, MI is seeking to expand Carrington Pointe manufactured home community (MHC) in Fort Wayne, IN (MHC) by 36 acres to accommodate 165 manufactured homes (MH).
A rezoning that allows homes to occupy rental sites and a primary development plan were approved by the Fort Wayne Planning Commission and the Fort Wayne City Council in November, but the project still needs a special-use approval to conform to the Smith Field Airport overlay district.
Airport officials are not concerned about the extension of the MHC in terms of height restrictions, glare, lights or any other factors that could disrupt plane traffic, but do have misgivings about a proposed retention area that could attract wildlife, such as birds. Waterfowl have been know to cause damage to airplanes, and even crashes, as journalgazette reports from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
As a result, airport officials want the retention area designed to drain within 48 hours as a precaution, according to Joe Marana, director of operations for the Fort Wayne Airport Authority. ##
