GSNMagazine says the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is sponsoring a design competition for six different types of emergency housing units to address future disaster housing needs, and license the winning designs to the manufacturers of the homes. FEMA wants one, two and three bedroom homes to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the three same sizes that do not have to comply with ADA. FEMA’s notice says, “This concept allows FEMA to have a single design and layout for each type of manufactured home in the Agency’s inventory, which allows for easier installation instructions and a more convenient location for the hookups of utilities when FEMA constructs a group site.” As MHProNews has learned, following a series of questions to be answered by prospective designers by Feb. 1, 2013, FEMA will provide additional information about the competition.
