Sandhill Shores manufactured home community (MHC) in Fort Pierce, Florida is holding a mock hurricane drill June 26 to inform residents what to expect in case of a real event. Managed by Newby Management, the 55+ community of homes and recreational vehicles (RV) will experience the drill as if a hurricane hit just outside the community, deploying an assessment team to ride around the community and locate damage, marking homes that have been “damaged,” and sending out a repair team to minimize “damage” to homes. During the mock drill, another team is responsible for water sanitation, while a kitchen team will prepare lunches using only nonperishable products that people will likely have on hand during a hurricane. In addition, MHProNews has learned from tcpalm.com the mock Newby Management Emergency Action Team (NEAT) members are volunteer Sandhill Shores residents on task for 24-48 hours, or until government assistance arrives. Newby Management will have a trailer on site stocked with necessary tools and supplies, from gloves and bug spray to compressors and generators. Although manufactured homes have been built stronger in recent years, being prepared is vital to the safety of residents and the community. ##
