Updating a story MHProNews last posted June 18, 2015 about the possible re-opening of the former Magnolia Homes in Gering, Nebraska, starherald reports former owner Doug Fillingham is set to re-open as Family Built Homes, hiring many of the same employees who lost their jobs last June when Magnolia ceased operations.
The Gering City Council approved a $200,000 economic development grant for the modular housing company to get up and running again. Says Fillingham, “Our plan is to build high quality modular housing. We are going to use quality materials, solid surface countertops, quality flooring, and so everything is going to be top end,” We are planning on putting folks back to work in the community. That employee base will be 40-50 employees once we get up and running.”
He says he has been in contact with 25 former employees of Magnolia who are ready to go back on the production line making modular homes.
Part of their business plan is to expand sales into Colorado where Fillingham said they had a banner year in the housing market last year, but also targeting South Dakota and Wyoming.
Gering is in west central Nebraska, near the Wyoming line. ##
