Fort Collins: We Need more Manufactured Housing

Upon asking 61 residents at a Fort Collins, Colorado community meeting discussing housing affordability and the city council’s role, coloradon.com reports one respondent said change zoning laws so more manufactured home communities (MHCs) could build. Another answerer replied MHCs should be set up in clusters for rentals and starter homes, and that local philanthropic organizations help provide the resources. Another respondent said support and protect MHC development exclusively for affordable housing, yet another complained about all the communities being closed. As MHProNews reported March 17, 2014, after witnessing five MHCs displace 461 families as they ceased operations over the last 20 years, of the 14 remaining, eight are scheduled to be re-purposed. With housing pressure as a college town, small apartments rent for $800-$1000, well beyond the definition of affordable. ##
