Savannah Now reports that a flawed zoning map could tie the city of Tybee up in litigation. Since the issue came to light, many residents have found their properties are shown as being in a commercial zoning district that does not list single-family homes as an allowable use. According to the report, modular homes were delivered to the site in mid-December after a city zoning official allowed the division of the property without sending it to City Council for approval. Planning and zoning manager Jonathan Lynn defended the move by citing a section in city code that allows him to approve minor subdivisions if they meet certain criteria. Nine houses along U.S. 80 are shown as being in the Highway Business District, even though the city does not include single-family dwellings as an allowable use.
