A violent hail storm that hit Yellowstone County in Montana dented vehicles, destroyed gardens, broke windows and ruined roofs in Laurel, Montana. However, the most damage occurred at Alder Ridge Estates manufactured home community where some 50 homes suffered visible damage to the vinyl siding on the west side of the homes.
The community is owned by the Oakland company in Billings, Montana, but many of the home sites are privately owned, laureloutlook tells MHProNews. Homes that still have a mortgage on them will likely have insurance to cover the damage, but most probably do not have insurance on the structure, and will have to bear the repairs themselves. Resident Tim Redman has coverage for the contents, and says some of the homes are not even insurable. He installed the siding a year ago, and will make the repairs as he can afford to.
In an interesting twist, however, homes manufactured before 1980 have tin or wood siding or some other metal, and sustained little or no damage. ##
