Harvey, Irma, Jose, Maria…Now, It’s Nate – More MH Industry Impact Looming

NowItsHurricanNateDailyBusinessNewsManufactured housing industry professionals are still assessing the fall out and impacts of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose and Maria.

After a decade of relative quiet from Atlantic and Gulf hurricanes, Mother Nature has struck this year with a vengeance.

FEMA is buying homes as fast as it can acquire them, much to the chagrin of significant numbers of independent retailers, who for weeks have been understandably concerned, and are complaining that they’re being pushed back in line, “because FEMA pays more.”

Nate, say forecasters, is moving towards parts of the Gulf of Mexico that have U.S. offshore drilling activities. Its a tropical storm that is expected to reach hurricane force wind status before making landfall.  Such storms are also known to spawn tornadoes in their wake.

Flooding in some areas is another potential outcome to be expected.  Under-reported by the tornado-death focused news media is the fact that flooding kills more people every year than tornadoes by a significant margin.

MH Industry Impacts

As with prior storms, that will impact fuel and other costs that are passed onto to manufactured home producers, retailers – and ultimately – consumers.  Depending on where Nate strikes, numerous manufactured home communities could be in its path.

Barring the unforeseen, the storm is expected to make landfall this weekend.
