The Giles County High School Technology Center Building Trades in Pearisburg, Virginia west of Roanoke is putting the final touches on a modular home that will be trucked to a site June 26 where a father and son will move into the home in August, according to roanoke. The 1,200 square foot house “is as green as we could make it,” said Paul Baker, the construction trades teacher at Giles County HS, noting it has a metal roof, HardiePlank siding and several energy-efficient features.
Rocky Mount-based Procon is donating the materials and the workers to install the foundation for the three-bedroom, two bath home in conjunction with the New River Valley chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Baker said he is looking forward to next year’s construction trades class that will build another modular home for Habitat. The Habitat goal is to expand the effort to other schools in nearby counties building modular homes as well, as MHProNews has learned. ##
