A Novato, Calif. non-profit that operates Marin’s three homeless shelters will partner with modular builder Blu Homes to site 14 one and two-bedroom compact homes to be rented to low-income, formerly homeless families with children. According to marinij, Marin-based Homeward Bound, which also operates transitional housing, has raised one third of the $3 million needed to complete the project. As MHProNews noted Jan. 16, 2012, Blu owners Bill Haney and Maura McCarthy moved its operations from Mass. to a 250,000 square foot hangar in Vallejo, Calif. last Dec.The company makes a steel-framed foldable unit that is easy to transport and set-up. Recently, the firm has been hit with charges of unfair labor practices at its 100 + worker facility.
