MHProNews has received communication that the U. S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is offering disaster relief assistance to portions of Mississippi and Louisiana in the wake of damages from Hurricane Isaac following President Obama’s disaster declaration Wed. Aug. 29. Families that have been forced from their homes in 35 parishes of Louisiana and 34 counties in Mississippi will be eligible to receive a 90-day moratorium on foreclosures of Federal Housing Administration (FHA)-insured mortgages, as well as FHA insurance and loans to repair and refinance an existing home, or finance the purchase of a new home for eligible applicants. Both states may redirect Block Grant and HOME Program monies to address housing and other critical needs for affected residents, and to receive loan guarantees for housing assistance, economic development, and public infrastructure repair.
