Good news is what it is just as bad or meh news are what they are too.

One might think that the Manufactured Housing Institute, Clayton Homes, or others beyond the local Paradise Chamber of Commerce would be keenly interested in promoting this good news story.

But so far, that would not be the case.

First, much of the Action News report, and then some analysis. This was from a report dated Posted: May 5, 2020 5:27 PM (see link to original, below).

First mobile home site reopens in Paradise

Paradise residents Greg and Theresa Vincent return and watch tearfully as their new home is delivered to Paradise Mobile Estates, the first rebuilt mobile home park to reopen on the Ridge, 18 months after the devastating Camp Fire destroyed their home.

QuoteMarkManufacturedHomeLivingNewsPARADISE, Calif. (Action News) – Paradise residents Greg and Theresa Vincent return and watch tearfully as their new home is delivered to Paradise Mobile Estates, the first rebuilt mobile home park to reopen on the Ridge, 18 months after the devastating Camp Fire destroyed their home.

“Tears were flowing to see the home coming towards us it was like, ok remember to let go of the ribbon,” said Greg Vincent.

“I’ve never seen so much excitement about one home coming into a community it was a lot of fun—but today is really all about the Vincent’s,” said John McDougall, Principal and CEO of Monte Christo Communities.

Greg and Theresa Vincent are Camp Fire survivors – and now they’re coming home.

“For me, it wasn’t even a question,” said Theresa.

The couple has been living in an RV in Durham since the fire, and they told Action News Now, it hasn’t been easy.

But now tears of pain have turned to tears of joy, thanks to Monte Christo Communities in partnership with Casa park homes – the first mobile home [sic] site in Paradise reopened.

39 manufactured homes will be set up and ready for purchase before the end of the year.

“We kinda just move forward with the project and not knowing what the demand would look like when we reopen,” McDougall said.

McDougall feeling blessed, leading the charge to bring the affordable homes back into town.

He says this is a huge step in the recovery process for the town, bringing back housing to hopefully encourage more businesses.

The mobile home site has existed in Paradise since the 1960s. McDougall says this is the second time they are having to rebuild the park.

Pricing for the manufactured home ranges from $70-100,000.

“We’re really hopeful that the town will keep a lot of the character that it had before and the senior community will come back,” he said.

“I love the mountain air and seeing the beautiful stars at night that I’ve missed,” the Vincent’s said. “This is where I wanna be where I wanna stay, it’s a blessing to come home to be back up here where we belong.”

The Vincent’s will be able to move into their new home in a couple of weeks.

“We are thrilled and honored to lead the comeback of mobile home communities to Paradise, where this has historically been a large percentage of the area’s housing. It’s vital that mobile home communities reopen so the Paradise economy can return and it’s displaced residents who want to move back will be able to come home. Welcome back Greg and Theresa!” said McDougall.

MHProNews Analysis and Commentary in Brief

ICYMI, it is the video posted above where Clayton Homes is mentioned. A close look at the visible interior part of the plastic covering the distant half of the multi-sectional in that video makes it clear that it is indeed a Clayton product.

ClaytonHomesParadiseCAManufacturedHomeIndustryNewsMHProNews
Editor’s note: that should say primarily about Clayton vs. only.

For those who wonder why the industry is underperforming, a look at the screen captures above and below sheds some light.

ParadiseMobileEstatesParadiseCAClaytonHomesCommunityReOpeningManufacturedHomeProNews

Here is a truly good mainstream news story, and neither Clayton nor MHI saw fit to spotlight this event?

But there is another reason to watch this video.

McDougall indicated that there was significant interest in the homes, perhaps surprisingly so, during the COVID19 pandemic.

That’s a point that will be worth following. See the related reports further below and the report that will be published tomorrow morning.

Investors. The question in the headline involving Equity LifeStyle Properties (ELS) below, another MHI member, might well apply here. “What the hell have you been?”

FrankRolfeNegativeArticlesOnIndustryNoCommentbyManufacturedHousingInstituteMHIRVHorizonsMobleHomeUniversityPostedDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews
The principle of separating wheat from the chaff must be used with Frank Rolfe and all others. In quoting Rolfe, we are not endorsing his business practices, but rather pointing out an apt statement that criticizes the association he himself is a member of today.

The answer is in part provided, ironically, by yet another MHI member. Frank Rolfe said the above.

Why is the industry underperforming? When you pass on opportunities to tout good news, and some of your largest members are often magnets for bad news, what should be expected?
