The Sioux City Journal reports a new Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant will provide funding to public housing officials to identify families at risk of being broken up because of inadequate housing. The grant encourages child welfare officials to work closely with public housing authorities to reunite children in foster care with their families. The $15 million Family Unification Program (FUP) will provide 1,931 Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) for these families to rent from private landlords and will pay 30 percent of their income for housing. The funds may also be used to provide stable housing for youths 18-21 who are leaving the foster care system.
