The Gerry Park for Mobile Homes in Gary, Indiana has been sold to Arogas, Inc. by former owner Pat Quinn which owns Mr. Fuel gas stations in the area. Arogas already owns a 9.3 acre adjoining site that has been rezoned for industrial use and is expected to be home to a new travel center, although some neighbors are opposed to the plan. According to nwitimes, both properties are bounded by Interstate80/94 on the north.
At a meeting with Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson, several residents of the 50 homesite community stated their homes are too old to be moved, and others said they would like more time to make the necessary arrangements. The residents are being offered $3,810 if they move by the end of June, $3,540 by the end of July, or $3,270 if they can vacate by the end of August. Previously, Arogas had offered each resident $3,000.
Gary A. Radtke, owner of Radtke Engineering and Surveying, LLC, who represented the new owners at the meeting, but could not make any decisions, said several other manufactured home communities have offered to move some of the homes for free and can come close to matching their site rents. MHProNews understands Mayor Freeman-Wilson wants another meeting next week and expects the property owners to be present.
Radtke said a nearby Mr. Fuel facility employs 70 people and generates $100,000 annually in taxes. ##
