“2021 was world’s 6th-warmest year on record,” said the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) federal government website, which says the NOAA is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. “After two consecutive years (2019 and 2020) that ranked among the top three warmest on record, Earth was a slightly cooler planet in 2021. But not by much.” “According to an analysis by scientists at NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), 2021 ranked sixth on the list of warmest years on record, dating back to 1880.” In federal jargon, that might be construed as a problematic admission to the hot-button topics for some of global warming, climate change, and the related “man made climate change” claims. That aside, the NOAA/National Weather Service (NWS) has released preliminary data for 2021 tornado death information. So has the Insurance Information Institute (III.org). A preliminary comparison of the two data sets ought to be front page news for authentic vs. ersatz affordable housing advocates, specifically those who are keen on modern manufactured homes. That, plus the industry’s first and still only our Daily Business News on MHProNews macro-markets and manufactured housing industry connected equities reports, time saving and insight packed left-right headlines for 1.14.2022 follow.
Per their website, the NOAA/NWS is located in Norman, OK. As a disclosure, that is a city where this writer went to several years of elementary education, junior high, high school, and the University of Oklahoma (a.k.a.: O.U.).

Next up is from the Insurance Information Institute (III.org). It is quoted verbatim but spacing was added as needed.
Facts + Statistics: Tornadoes and thunderstorms
2021 Tornadoes: From January 1 to December 14, 2021, there were 1,254 tornadoes in the United States, compared with 1,075 in all of 2020, according to preliminary data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Tornadoes killed over 100 people in 2021, including about 90 in the December 10 series of tornadoes. In 2020, 76 people perished in tornadoes.
On the evening of December 10, 2021, a powerful low-pressure system that lifted from the Southern Plains into the Great Lakes and fueled by record-setting warm temperatures and a La Niña weather pattern spawned about 35 tornadoes across six states and killed about 90 people. Hardest hit was Kentucky, where about 75 people were killed and 26,000 homes and businesses were without power, and more than 1,000 homes were destroyed. In addition, six people were killed in Illinois; four in Tennessee; two in Arkansas; and two in Missouri. Although loss estimates will take weeks to tally, insured losses will rank among the top 10 costliest U.S. catastrophes involving tornadoes. According to an Artemis survey of about 1,000 reinsurance and related companies, the majority of respondents (37 percent) estimate the tornadoes will cost $2.5 billion to $5 billion in insured losses, but about a quarter estimated the losses at $5 billion to $7.5 billion and over $7.5 billion, respectively. The costliest catastrophe involving tornadoes occurred in April 2011, when a spate of twisters hit Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and 12 other states, causing $8.5 billion in insured losses in 2020 dollars. The deadliest event in the 2000s was the May 2011 Joplin, Missouri event that took 158 lives.” ##
Additional Information, More MHProNews Analysis and Commentary in Brief
One need not look beyond the evidence from Google early this morning, in the related graphic below, or beyond the linked reports found first and arguably the best on MHProNews and MHLivingNews. Note that in many browsers and devices you can click on the image that follows and follow the prompts to achieve a large size. You may need to use your browsers back or escape key or follow your devices prompts to return to this page.
The above is apparently the most watched video on this topic. The below is arguably one of the single most definitive examinations of the evidence on the topic of tornadoes, windstorms and hurricanes as it relates to conventional housing performance vs. manufactured housing. It includes a ‘side by side’ test performed by a third-party in the insurance industry. You can see the conventional house collapse, while a standard manufactured home purchased off a retailer’s lot that was installed to WZ3 standards survived the test.
VOA reported on 12.22.2021 that “it’s likely that the nation will see more than 3.4 million deaths in 2021.” Out of those only about 100 died in a tornado. Out of those, only about 9 were in a mobile or manufactured home. That’s the story that the manufactured home industry must hammer home on.
As a shameless fact, for those who have a website and are savvy enough, or will pay their web developer maybe $100, you could have an RSS feed to MHProNews and/or MHLivingNews added to your website footer. Others have done it, you can too. Evidence indicates an RSS feed that links to the latest headlines on MHProNews/MHLivingNews increases traffic and improves SEO. Serious shoppers want serious information, evidence, and insights. We’ve been told that showing videos like those above to customers sitting on the fence have closed more sales. Enough said?
Back to the preliminary facts.
About 9 mobile and manufactured home deaths in 2021, divided by 3.4 million yields = 0.00000264705. There are far more deaths in slip- and falls in a bathroom every year (conventional or other construction) than die in a tornado who were living in a mobile or manufactured home. Facts matter. Evidence matters. MHI should stop jerking the proverbial football of more sales away from the industry by doing its —- job.
