Single mom and Army Staff Sgt. Michelle Satterfield was surprised at the last regular season home game of the Pittsburgh Steelers when she received a ceremonial key to a modular home in White Oak, Pennsylvania, where she will be near her fellow soldiers in the 14th Quartermaster Detachment in Greensburg.
Satterfield served two tours of duty in Iraq and did humanitarian work in El Salvador and Peru, and in areas damaged by Hurricane Sandy, as triblive tells MHProNews.
The New York-based Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, named for an NYC firefighter who died during the 9-11 terror attacks, collaborated with McKeesport Area High School students to build the home during their school year. This marked the first of the 47 Siller Foundation homes to have been built by students, states John Hodge, COO of the Foundation.
Mike Locke, who teaches the building construction class at the high school, said the three-bedroom, two bath home was built from the ground up by the students in two sections. At a ceremony in the high school gymnasium, Satterfield received the real keys to the home and was “delivered” there in a Fed-Ex truck. Upon her arrival, she was presented with a $10,000 gift certificate to Bob’s Furnishings to complete the furnishing of the home. ##
In addition to the Siller Foundation and Fed Ex, assistance was also provided by Blueroof Technologies, the Pittsburgh Steelers Foundation, Home Depot and several other donors. ##
