A check of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) search tool for “National Home Ownership Month” on 6.1.2024 reveals 10,000 results. “Originally started as an annual national event in 1956 as a way to promote the benefits of home ownership and the value of using of a REALTOR® in real estate transactions, American Home Week has gone through many changes over the years,” is one of the posted remarks by NAR. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) website search for that same phrase yields dozens of results starting with: “Join NAHB and other members of the housing industry by celebrating National Homeownership Month in June.” “As NAHB celebrates National Homeownership Month in June, builders are urging lawmakers to implement policies that will help address housing affordability…” The White House website says: “During National Homeownership Month, we recognize the power of owning a home when raising a family, planting roots in a community, building equity, and passing down generational wealth to continue the American Dream for generations to come.” In other words, home ownership brings a range of benefits and has long been considered a part of the American Dream. National Home Ownership Month should be an annual remembrance for manufactured home professionals too. More on that topic later. But next up among today’s headline subjects is the issue of MHVille Top 31 for May 2024, including Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) connected controversies – which led the pack for subjects of keen interest to manufactured housing professionals in the month just passed.
Last month’s top headlines list are among the hottest items for the past month shown below. Manufactured housing industry professionals, along with investors, nonprofits, public officials, media, and other researchers peering into the professional side of the world of manufactured housing apparently want to know what their peers are interested in too.
In the list that follows is based upon the largest of the baker’s dozen cPanel’s data generated by Webalizer for MHProNews: “Usage Statistics for manufacturedhomepronews.com Generated 01-Jun-2024 07:06 CDT.” Some items are edited out for proprietary reasons, but the list is otherwise as generated by Webalizer. Articles regarding this listing do not, for example, include the home page or categories such as the editorial Masthead blog, the Words of Wisdom, Daily Business News, etc. Last month was apparently the hottest in years, per Webalizer, which left-leaning Wikipedia describes thus: “The Webalizer is web log analysis software, which generates web pages of analysis, from access and usage logs. It is one of the most commonly used web server administration tools. It was initiated by Bradford L. Barrett in 1997.”

To be blunt, because we have thousands of articles online, we have advantages that our rivals don’t possess. What follows those remarks from the White House website is a pitch from Bidenville that is doubtlessly meant to benefit the Biden-Harris re-election campaign, though that may not be the official stance. During the 3.3 years that Biden and Harris have occupied (rightly or wrongly) their respective offices and residences in Washington, D.C. The facts, often from left-leaning sources that are rather Biden vs. “felon” Trump friendly, clearly reflect that housing is less affordable now than under the 45th President of the United States (POTUS) Donald J. Trump. A flash poll from the Daily Mail indicates that Trump’s favorability with likely voters has increased some 6 points as a result of the ‘guilty’ verdict.
Indeed, great damage was done today to the public’s faith in the American legal system.

Trump was already ahead of Biden prior to the Daily Mail survey. Perhaps not as ‘bigly’ as he may claim, but nevertheless there has been a steady lead for Trump over Biden for months, according to sources such as Real Clear Politics (RCP) often referenced average of polls.
Among the issues that is potentially hurting Biden, and helping Trump, are housing related.
As MHProNews has often quipped, in such an environment, manufactured housing should be soaring instead of snoring. There is yet another MHI-circle linked voice that has questioned manufactured housing leadership, or the lack thereof, during this affordable housing crisis. Watch for that report – because it is insightful and eye opening.
There are low information voters, noted the late Rush Limbaugh. There are also lower and higher information professionals. Some pros go to work, do their job, clock out every day and may think as little as possible about their work. That’s not a knock, it is simply a statement of reality. Others are very into their careers, either because they own or help manage a business, have investments, or have in mind to advance in a career in this industry. Even for those who want to ‘stay out’ of industry politics there are good reasons to know what those ‘third-rail’ topics in MHVille are. Having knowledge is routinely better than not having it, or so billions have thought throughout human history.
There are those who assert that since Biden-Harris entered office, Gen Z and other younger adults (or soon to be adults) will not have the same opportunities for home ownership as their parents did. The Biden White House website essentially acknowledged that in this year’s national home ownership month remarks when it said: “Whether they rent or buy, Americans deserve a safe place to call home.”
It ought to be obvious that manufactured housing should be soaring. Articles like those linked above and below go into those topics in greater depth. Kevin Clayton, John Bostick, Ed Hussey and others are quoted in their remarks to Congress about what ought to be one of the hottest topics in manufactured housing. Yet, it is a subject – enhanced preemption – that was not found on MHI’s website. Why is that so?
What Bing now calls their AI powered Copilot has made over a year’s worth of observations at the request of MHProNews. It said one of the fastest ways to grow the industry is to properly and routinely enforce existing laws. See those quotes at the base of the graphic below.
Manufactured housing could be growing at a record pace. Several MHI leaders, past and current, have said as much. Yet the industry is not advancing. In yo-yo fashion, the industry has gone up and down for years, somewhat over and somewhat under the 100,000 units per year mark. The Washington, D.C. based Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) said: “since 2009 has averaged fewer than 78,000 homes per year and, over that same period, has only rarely exceeded the 100,000 home historical benchmark.”
