The Modular Building Institute has awarded Star Apartments in Los Angeles, California as the Building of the Month. The 51 modules by Guerdon Enterprises LLC of Boise, Idaho for the Skid Row Housing Trust provides 102 apartments, each about 350 square feet, created with a community-minded open design with rooftop spaces for recreation and pedestrian traffic. The 92,000 square feet complex features energy-efficient appliances, low-VOC finishes for air quality, bicylce storage in the building’s garage, and earned LEED Platinum Certification, according to ourmidland.com. The apartments were constructed above an existing retail building which was gutted and renovated to provide support for the modular apartments. Last month’s Modular Building of the Month was Ruth Lake Lodge in Alberta, Canada, as MHProNews reported Sept. 18, 2014. ##
