While the Calcasieu Parish police jurors in southwestern Louisiana approved a new 336-site manufactured home community (MHC) by a vote of 13 to 1, as MHProNews reported June 25, 2016, kplctv reports another proposal for a 987-homesite, also in Calcasieu Parish, is running into stiff opposition from a neighborhood organized against it.
The new proposal would see the homes on about 200 acres on Goodman Road in Lake Charles, and the property would have to be rezoned from agricultural to MHC.
For the previous proposal, the developer said in that particular area, manufactured homes outnumber site-built by six to one.
For the current plan, the opposition is holding a community meeting to best determine how to oppose the MHC. The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Planning and Zoning Committee will take up the issue July 18.
As MHProNews reported Dec. 25, 2013, the South African Co. Sasol Ltd. is building an ethane cracker and gas-to-liquid facility near Sulphur, LA, which is just west of Lake Charles, also in Calcasieu Parish. Up to 54,000 workers will be hired to construct the plant that will then employ 4,000. ##
