Maine Site Plan Includes Modular Homes

Doug Koos owns a manufactured housing community in Castine, Maine that he intends to turn into a modular housing community. Currently he has 19 manufactured homes on the property plus six abandoned homes that are currently being demolished in the community licensed for 29 units. State law allows for modular homes on property designated for manufactured homes, according to castinepatriot.com. In another area of the community he originally thought were wetlands, he intends to build 16 duplex townhomes, possibly modular, eight of which will be restricted affordable units that meets the local definition of affordable in the zoning ordinance: Housing that meets the needs of families and others whose household income is no more than 125 percent of the median income of Hancock County. A site plan review will come before the county planning board Nov. 14. MHProNews has learned if approved, the $2 million project will commence next summer.
