Rate hikes went into effect in January due to a $70,000 annual water utility deficit. Roman Paziuk of Pazco Holdings Inc., operator of the manufactured home community, said “I’m concerned about the negative effects on the residents within our manufactured home community, especially those on a fixed income. Some are talking about selling, some are talking about moving their homes… Once you start an exodus from a community, it tends to snowball.”
Several residents who moved to New Sarepta recently are considering leaving. Sharon Shumard says her son’s family’s water bill went from $250 a month to over $500, as leducrep informs MHProNews.
Mayor John Whaley, who voted against the increases initially, said, “We’ll be looking at it again. I can’t promise anything today… but that’s a council decision, so we’ll have a discussion afterwards and see what we can and can’t do here.” ##
