Following a story MHProNews last posted March 14, 2015 about a couple in Lewis Center, Ohio whose manufactured home was sliding into a creek next to their home, after numerous inspections and visits from commissioners, the state helped fix the situation, according to wbns10tv. The fix involved installing a retaining box on the corner nearest the creek and filling it with concrete.
After Dick DeWeese convinced the Ohio Manufactured Home Commission that the home was originally sited incorrectly, the commission tracked down the original installer over the summer and convinced them to re-set the house, which they did at no cost to the family. The home, located at Worthington Arms MHC, had cracked walls, creaking wood and weeds growing through the floor. The family had to put tape around the door to keep the wind from blowing in.
The original inspector overlooked clear signs of faulty installation, and a second inspector, who did cite installation problems, left soon after submitting his report. Following, the State Inspector General’s Office recommended changes in the way inspections are documented, now requiring inspectors to verify their activities. ##
