“Somebody moving up to the region, especially if they’re a young family, they may not have the resources (to buy homes) up above $400,000,” Hillmer told council. “We like this market and we like the town.” She added there would be architectural controls to assure attractiveness of the residences.
The Edmonton-based developer wants to site the homes in a subdivision in the west end of Taylor on land owned by the district, as alaskahighwaynews.ca informs MHProNews. Mortgage payments would run around $1,100 per month.
However, several councillors spoke of the need for larger homes in Taylor. Coun. Brent Taillefer, noting the existence of entry level units, said some residents want to stay but larger homes are just not available.
Mayor Rob Fraser said, “We seem to be missing (homes) that are in the middle range. I’m not sure (manufactured homes) would fill a niche that I was looking for.”
Taylor is in the southeast corner of BC on the Alaska Highway.##
