Moses Lake, in east central Washington state, is in the process of complying with a 2004 state law that requires cities allow manufactured homes (MH) in the same neighborhoods as stick-built homes, according to what ifiberone tells MHProNews.
While the city had prevented MH from being sited in single-family residential areas, state law requires jurisdictions to treat both types of housing as the same, says Community Development Director Gilbert Alvarado. The Washington Cities Insurance Authority discovered Moses Lake was not in compliance.
Alvarado said, “We’re 10 years late, now going on 12 years late from that statute … We have to do something.” He added MH needs to meet the same quality requirements as stick-built homes. ##
