Some of the vacant lots in manufactured housing communities (MHCs) could meet the needs of truck drivers for the Southern Minnesota Sugar Beet Cooperative and its members as the season’s work begins Friday, Sept. 5 in Renville County. Jill Bruns, public health director, told the Renville County Board of Commissioners the infrastructure exists and some of the older MH units in the communities could be replaced. According to wctrib.com, Transystem provides trucking services for the beet industry, and some of the drivers stay with relatives or at area hotels. The need for temporary housing has been an issue for some time in the agricultural-based local economy. MHProNews has posted stories regarding manufactured housing for seasonal workers in the past. ##
